EXECUTIVE OFFICER: Geoffrey R. Spohn
Commodore Geoffrey R. Spohn serves as the Executive Officer (XO) of the USS Cutty Sark, bringing a diverse background in leadership, public service, and organizational administration.
A member of STARFLEET International since 2019, XO Spohn began his journey as a founding member of the USS Grand Petoskey, serving as Second Officer and later Chief of Security. In the spring of 2025, he joined the USS Cutty Sark during its initial shakedown phase, becoming actively involved in the chapter's development, commissioning, and launch. In May 2025, Captain Buelow appointed him as her Executive Officer.
XO Spohn's love of Star Trek began with The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, before ultimately discovering his favorite series, Star Trek: Voyager.
Among his favorite commanding officers are Captains Jean-Luc Picard and Kathryn Janeway. He admires Picard's compassionate yet no-nonsense leadership, moral convictions, and diplomatic approach. He also shares Picard's appreciation for a familiar beverage, ordered in precisely the same manner: "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot."
Janeway's determination, adaptability, and ability to overcome seemingly hopeless circumstances resonate equally strongly with him. Her confidence, resourcefulness, and never-give-up attitude reflect qualities he strives to embrace in his own life.
His favorite characters include 7-of-9 and Data, whose journeys toward individuality, self-discovery, and personal improvement represent qualities he greatly admires. Likewise, Worf and Chakotay's dedication to honor, heritage, and the warrior's code parallels XO Spohn's lifelong martial arts training and appreciation for the philosophies of the Japanese samurai.
XO Spohn believes that leadership is defined not by rank or authority, but through service, integrity, accountability, and helping others reach their potential. Drawing from Picard and Janeway's leadership, Data and 7-of-9's pursuit of self-improvement, and the code of honor and traditions represented by Worf and Chakotay, he values a balance of compassion, conviction, humility, and adaptability.
As Executive Officer, his priorities include supporting Captain Buelow, assisting fellow officers, encouraging crew participation, and fostering an environment where every member feels welcomed, respected, and valued.
SECOND OFFICER: Conner Valenti
Lieutenant Conner Valenti serves as the Second Officer (2.O) aboard the USS Cutty Sark, bringing with him a passion for Star Trek, martial arts, tech, and a strong commitment to personal growth and community service.
A lifelong Trekkie, Lt. Valenti's appreciation for Star Trek began during childhood, watching episodes with his father after school. Through these shared experiences, he developed an admiration for the franchise's optimistic vision of humanity's future and the values it represents. The principles of tolerance, acceptance, compassion, and helping others became an important part of his personal philosophy.
Inspired by Star Trek's message of exploration and discovery, Lt. Valenti believes in maintaining a curious mind, thinking creatively, and approaching life's challenges with determination and resourcefulness. He strives to embody the belief that individuals can make a meaningful difference in the world through their actions, attitudes, and willingness to help others.
Outside of STARFLEET, Lt. Valenti has dedicated nearly 15 years to the study and practice of martial arts. He holds the rank of Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) in Tatsu Te Ryū Karate-Dō and has served as a karate instructor for four years, earning the teaching title of Shihan-Sensei.
Through his martial arts training and instruction, he has developed a strong appreciation for discipline, respect, perseverance, and leadership. He enjoys sharing these principles with his students, encouraging them to develop not only their physical abilities but also their confidence, character, and sense of responsibility.
A self-described "nerdy guy" and technology enthusiast, Lt. Valenti enjoys exploring computers, digital technology, and the creative possibilities they offer. His technical interests have led him to assist with website management and development, as well as providing technical and administrative support for his martial arts instructor and dojo. Whether troubleshooting a technical issue, maintaining online resources, or helping organize projects, he enjoys putting his knowledge and skills to practical use.
Through his service aboard the USS Cutty Sark, Lt. Valenti looks forward to supporting the ship's command staff, contributing to the chapter's growth, and helping create a welcoming environment where members can share their interests, build friendships, and celebrate the shared vision of Star Trek.
